Bittersweet

For the past few weeks, I have been struggling with the idea of stopping nursing. If someone had told me 10 months ago, that I would actually be sad about stopping - I would have thought they were crazy! Nursing Harrison was one of the hardest, most selfless things I have ever done. Those first few weeks (or months), were by no means easy. But once the pain went away, I began to truly love nursing. I never planned on going past six months.. and here I am still nursing at 10 months. If it weren't due to my lack of milk supply, I might actually have been that creepy lady nursing her 18 month old child. While I can think of many reasons not to stop, I can also see some positives in it, making this decision.... bittersweet.

Good-bye to....
  • Burning 500 calories a day  - I guess it's time to hit the gym!
  • Free milk for Harrison
  • Never having to worry about taking bottles with us
  • My secret weapon in the middle of the night

Hello to....
  • Having more than ONE class of wine
  • Not dragging my pump back and forth to work every day
  • Not sitting in a closet twice a day at work to pump
  • Taking medicine when I am sick
  • Not having to worry about nursing/pumping when we are out and about

  1. Wow! Good for you for making it to 10 months! I can't believe you've been pumping at school. I tried it when I went back to work with Briley and couldn't do it. I had a hard time using my break time pumping.

  2. I love reading this because I can't wait to get there! So many people make nursing out to be horrible, but I think it is awesome! Love the new pictures of Harrison he is as always a doll. I can't wait for him to meet Mckinley. Let's set a date up soon = )
